- Alys Tangwall Wendlandt, age 96, of Rice Lake, WI, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 3, 1918 in Indiana to Charles and Vera (Chalmers) Allar. After Alys graduated from High School she attended Barron County Normal School. She was married to Dewey Tangwall on October 25, 1941 and was later married to Melvin Wendlandt on April 13, 2000. Alys taught school in Springbrook, Madge and other country schools. She was the town clerk of Long Lake for many years, secretary of Suburban Bowling League for over 50 years and also very active in the Long Lake Lutheran Church where she directed the Church Choir and was superintendent of the Sunday School. Alys loved to go golfing and bowled until she was 90 years old. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Mikana and was in a bridge club. Her #1 priority was her family and her church. She was loved by all.
Alys Tangwall Wendlandt is survived by 2 daughters, Diane (Carlyle) Button of Rice Lake, WI and Dawn Koepp of Cameron, WI; 2 sons, Allen (Rosemary) Tangwall of Rice Lake, WI and Dewey (Sandra) Tangwall of Fremont, WI; a stepson, Ronald (Jacqueline) Wendlandt of Lawrenceburg, KY; a stepdaughter, Dianne (Rev. Edward) Zaiser of Birchwood, WI; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Webb Lake, WI; 3 brothers, Vernon Allar of Rice Lake, WI, Earl Allar of Silver Bay, MN and Corwin Allar of Hayward, WI; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dewey Tangwall and Melvin Wendlandt; a great-grandson, Justin Tangwall; 2 step grandsons, David and Paul Wendlandt; 2 step great-grandchildren, Eric Conley and Elsa Lee; parents, Charles and Vera Allar; 2 sisters, Geraldine and Charlotte and 2 brothers, Edward and Ken.
