    Marilyn Monson
MARILYN M. MONSON, 88 LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND FRIEND ROCKFORD - Marilyn M. Monson, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Born in Winona, Minn., on Sept. 21, 1920, the daughter of Ernest and Laura Mae Harvey. Marilyn graduated from Winona State Teachers College and taught school in Pine Island and Austin, Minn. In 1948, she moved to Rockford, and was a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Welsh and Riverdahl schools. In 1949, Marilyn married Charles Monson in Winona, with whom she spent 41 wonderful years before he passed in 1990. She enjoyed family vacations, time at the lake, cooking for family gatherings and baking cookies with her grandchildren. Friends and family remember that she always had a joke to tell, loved watching baseball and identifying birds and wildflowers. She was a member of and volunteered at Alpine Lutheran Church, helping with newsletter mailings and funeral luncheons. She also volunteered at SwedishAmerican Hospital. Marilyn loved to travel, taking trips with family and friends to Scandinavia, Alaska and most of the 50 states. Always an excellent storyteller, in the early '60s she used this skill on a Saturday morning television show, "Come and See," sharing Christian values telling Bible stories for children. For Marilyn, the best times she had were with her family and friends, laughing, talking, sharing and enjoying the company of the ones she loved. Survived by children, Linell Lasswell, Lori (Bob) Fanello and Chuck Monson; grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Fanello, Tia Lasswell, Selena (Jeff) Twitty and Tonya Lasswell; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lexi Such and Haley Twitty; sisters-in-law, Jo Albin and Shirley Brown; nephew, Scott (Katie) Harvey; several additional cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Helen Mahler, Joy Crittenden, and Mary Lamping.
