    Notes:

The death of Alva Crane, 84, occurred at the H.O. Nelson home last evening, after a serious illness of many months. Part of this time, Mr. Crane was a patient in the Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

Alva Crane will be greatly missed by his many friends in all circles of life. His life was a colorful one. As a young man he was a jockey and horse farmer, and a good one. His love for horses stayed with him his entire life. He was a wonderful man - a kind and indulgent father and grandfather.

He was a custodian at the Prairie State Bank, until a few months ago when his health became too poor to allow him to work. Upon his birthday it was his custom to invite the bank officers and employees to an oyster supper. This event was always well attended and gave Mr. Crane a great deal of pleasure.

Since the opening of the bank in 1918, Mr. Crane had never missed a day at his duties until illness prevented his remaining on the job any longer.

Surviving is one son, James Raymond of Redlands, CA. A son, Herbert, died during the past year, a daughter, Jessie Counsil, died a number of years ago, and another son died in infancy. The Cranes reared their grandchildren, Margie Counsil of Washington DC, and Oran Counsil. Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

His marriage to Elizabeth Gallagher occurred September 7, 1879. Before her death in 1930, the couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary together. Mr. Crane was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at the Dunsford Chapel Saturday at 4 p.m. with Rev. J.E. Robinson of the Methodist Church, in charge. Burial will be made in Kuster Cemetery.

Henry married Elizabeth Gallagher on 7 Sep 1879. Elizabeth was born on 8 Nov 1855 in , Jones County, Iowa, USA; died on 1 May 1930 in Augusta, Butler County, Kansas, USA; was buried in Augusta, Butler County, Kansas, USA, Kuster Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mariam Blanche Morrison was born near St. Bernice, Vermillion County, IN November 7, 1887, the daughter of James and Lucy (Crane) Morrison and passed from this life in the Ashland Hospital at 1:15 a.m. on June 6, 1944.

It is thought that sometime before her birth her father and uncle, Henry Morrison, had come to Clark County and filed on land. Later they moved their families and Blanche, as she was always known, came with them. As soon as old enough she attended the community schools such as we had in those early days, and as she soon outgrew them she went back to Indiana and completed her education, returning and making her home here until her marriage with Lawrence Foncannon, December 1, 1903.

After marriage she and her husband went to Indiana where they lived for some time and then returned to this county where her home has been ever since. She was the mother of 5 children: Mrs. Mary Gohn of Tulare, CA; Mrs. Walter D. Reed, of Bolivar, MO; and 3 sons, John of Wichita; James of Tulare, CA; and Stephen of the home.

Since the death of her mother, Blanche has resided on the old home farm as a tenant of her brothers and sisters. For the past 2 or 3 years her health has been impaired and just a few days before her death, an attack caused her to be brought to the hospital where she improved and had the physician's permission to go home last Tuesday. An adverse turn in her condition Monday afternoon proved fatal.
