    Violet Marie (Allar) Gillette, 92, of Spooner and formerly of Springbrook, died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Spooner Health System Nursing Home.

    Violet was born to Edwin and Esther (Scribner) Allar on June 7, 1918, at Springbrook. She was the youngest of 18 children. She attended school in Springbrook through the 10th grade.

    On April 3, 1937, she married Bert Gillette. They began their married life in Inver Grove, Minn., where three children were born. They moved to Springbrook in the spring of 1946 where Bert became joint owner of the Midway Garage. Violet stayed at home and had three more children. She enjoyed working in her garden and having many of her siblings and their families and friends near. During the 60's, Violet completed nursing aide training and worked for the Spooner Hospital and Nursing Home for 25 years. She enjoyed this work and was respected by the other aides, nurses, and doctors.

    After retiring, Bert and Vi enjoyed traveling to visit their children and also traveling with various bus tours.

    Violet was a member of the Namekagon Congregational Church UCC and the Ladies Aid at church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

    In 1990 they moved from Springbrook to Spooner to live with their daughter Nancy. Violet lived the last six years of her life at Spooner Health System Nursing Home where she enjoyed many of the activities but especially singing with the visiting performers and the nursing home staff. Violet was a caring, thoughtful and loving person that will be missed by all.

    Violet was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and her husband, Bert.

    She is survived by her children, Norma (Glen) Henderson of Kalispell, Mont., Mike (Arlene) Gillette of Citrus Heights, Calif., Jerry (Bonni) Gillette of Naperville, Ill., Nancy (Joe) Benavides of Spooner, Cathy Shelko of Naperville, Ill., and Sue (Scott) Hamm of Cadott; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Jack Gillette, of Spooner; one sister-in-law, Clara Allar, of Hayward; and many nieces and nephews.

    Violet married Berthel Lee Gillette on 3 Apr 1937. Berthel was born on 15 Jun 1912 in , , Wisconsin, USA; died on 20 Dec 2003 in Spooner, Washburn County, Wisconsin, USA; was buried in Earl, Washburn County, Wisconsin, USA, Earl Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
