Per Ms. Mendes, the obituary below was published in "The Waterloo Press" (Waterloo, DeKalb Co., Indiana) Thursday, May 02, 1895:
James D. McAnally was born in Troy, Ohio, Jan. 31,
1830. Died in Waterloo, April 27, 1895. Age 65 Years, 2 months
and 17 days.
Deceased was brought to DeKalb county, when a
lad of ten years, by his parents who settled on a farm near
Johnstown. This couny has since been his home.
Jan 9, 1851, he married Miss Mary A. Knott, who
survives him. They had born to them six children, three of
who have died. A son Samuel, of Auburn Junction, Mrs.
L.H. Klotz and Mrs. Geo. Staments of Waterloo, surviving.
About the year of 1860 he moved to Waterloo,
where he has maintained a residence and reared his
family. A man of unbending will and determination, he
fought a battle with his fatal disease, that of strangulated
hernia. The obsequis were held at the Evangelical church
and his remains were taken to Auburn and lain among the
dead of his people.
