Narragansett - Richard F. Cotter, Jr., 56, of 66 Beach Plum Rd., as science teacher at East Providence High School for the past 22 years, died yesterday at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret J. (Curran) Cotter.
Born in Providence, as son of the late Richard F. and Helen B. (Lennon) Cotter, he lived in East Providence many years before moving to Narragansett in 1978.
He was a 1950 graduate of Providence College. He was a member of the National and Rhode Island Education Associations, a past president of the East Providence Teachers Association, a member of Providence College and LaSalle Academy Alumni Associations and was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife he leaves his stepmother, Pauline A. Cotter of North Kingstown, two daughters, Kathleen M. Cotter of Narragansett and Denise A. O'Neill of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Michael T. Cotter of Narragansett, Paul B. Cotter of East Providence, and a sister, E. Carol Cotter of East Providence.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willette Ave., Riverside, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, Point Judith Road, at 11. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
