- Joseph Leon Cicherski was born on September 12, 1937 in Bremond, Texas to Joe B. and Stella (Bienski) Cicherski.
He served a total of 30 years in the United States Air Force. He served in all 3 branches of the USAF-Active Duty, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. Joe received 12 medals and ribbons throughout his USAF career.
Joe believed in community service and was very active in many organizations. He was elected to the LVISD school board and served as board secretary. He also served as treasurer and President of the SS Water Board. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and was a long time member of the Polish American Center where he served as treasurer and President. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and was elected as National Director which he served in for 4 years. Additional organizations he was a member of included Knights of Columbus Council #4315 (50+ year member), American Legion Post #539 and LaVernia Historical Society.
Football was always a passion of his and he regularly followed scores from all games, including his beloved Bremond Tigers. For 18 years he reported the LaVernia High School Varsity scores to the San Antonio Light and San Antonio Express News. He volunteered as an EMT as part of the LaVernia EMS and was a charter member of the St. Ann Men's Club. Joe was an 18 year employee at Koepp Chevrolet and recently completed 14 years of employment with the City of LaVernia as the Health Inspector.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Rose Lee Cicherski; daughter, Mary Jo Bilicek and husband John; sons, Stephen Cicherski and wife Laura and John Cicherski and wife Julie. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Bryan, Kathryn, Lauryn, Victoria, Valerie, Gregory, Angela, Joshua and Jenna. He took great pride in his family and regularly attended activities of his children and grandchildren.
Pall Bearers will be Bryan Moczygemba, Rex Schnitz, Lloyd Padalecki, Al Jendrzej, Leon Adams and Elroy Padalecki.
Interment will follow mass at the Annunciation of the BVM Catholic Cemetery. [1]
