| 951 | OBITUARY. Jonathan Brown* At St. Lawrence State Hospital, Ogdensburg, N, Y,, of brain disease, Jonathan Brown, aged 7 years and 3 months. Brother Brown was born in West Chazy, and was the oldest son of Deacon Edmond Brown, one of the pioneer settlers of that place, and located his farm near what used to be called the Douglass Corners. He experienced religion at 18 years of age and united with the primitive Baptist church here, who worshipped God in the Douglass school-house, and remained true to the faith till death. He was, at the time of his death, a member of the Baptist church, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he lived two years, from 1868 to 1870. He married when 28, Louisa Goodspeed, with whom he lived till God took her home in 1880, This was the crushing blow of his life. His love and attachment for his wife was so strong, that after her death he never rallied sufficiently to fully realize the necessity of renewing the battle tor life's duties and responsibilities. He moved to Ellenburgh, West Hill, in 1848, with his wife and two children, a son and a daughter. He has always been a resident of Ellenburgh, West Hill, and Ellenburgh Center, except the two years he lived at Iowa Falls, Iowa. Although a strong Baptist in sentiment and belief, yet he always felt at home wherever the true and living God was worshipped and had a zeal for his Master's cause always, and never neglected to tell of the goodness of God to his soul, and rejoiced that he could testify for Christ. Always at prayer-meeting and classy-meeting, fervent in prayer or exhortation, he gave no uncertain sound. When his brain, by disease, became so weakened that he could nor, fully realize his real surroundings, he always felt that he was near his Saviour, and would exhort others to seek that Saviour, who was so good to him, and he could sing of redeeming love to his latest breath, Of near relations, he leaves a son at Ellenburgh Center, two brothers In west Chazy, and a grandson at Ellenburgh, West Hill, and a grand-daughter at Troy, N. Y., and a large circle of acquaintances who were always his friends, to mourn his loss. S. B. Gregg | Brown, Jonathan (I982)

| 964 | Our Father was born on Valentines Day, and passed away on Fathers Day. John E Kolb was the first born of Joseph Edwin Kolb, and Leah Cochran. He made his Valentines Day entrance to their lives in Ipswich South Dakota, and shortly there-after the family moved to Hysham, Treasure County, Montana. The family stayed there a few years, and then moved to Pasadena in Southern California. John remembered fondly living in California, and riding his bike to the observatory up in the hills, and catching hell from his dad for it. He was about 8 or 9 when he did this with his friends. His father Ed, owned a gas station/repair shop there in Pasadena, but lost it during the depression. They then moved to Grass Valley, where Ed helped manage a friends fruit farm, until the friend lost his farm. Then they moved from Grass Valley California to Redmond Washington. John had very fond memories of growing up in Washington, and the "Swimming Hole" that they used to go to all the time. The kids all developed life long friendships there, (The Davidson Family especially) whom they remain in contact with to this day. John joined the Army Air Guard in October of 1942, and was initially set to train to fly, but during the training, his airsickness overcame him, so he had to change to airplane mechanic. He served for four years, and then returned home to Hamilton, in Washington state. John then worked on his father's dairy farm until he was married to Barbara in 1946, and then started doing large construction work with Barbara's father. In doing this construction work, they moved all over the northwest including Idaho and Montana and various locations in California. The family finally settled into the San Joaquin Valley near Sacramento. John worked for various "batch plants" as an operating engineer, then went to Viet Nam during the late 60's and early 70's with Morrison Knudsen, to help build bridges and airstrips that were needed for the war effort there. He returned to the states in 1972 at the end of the war. The family left California while John was in Vietnam, moving to Logan Utah. After he returned they moved from Logan to the Boise Idaho area. John worked for Idaho Concrete and Pipe in Nampa, until he was retirement age, retired, then decided retirement wasn't for him, and went back to work for them till he was 75 years old. He was a very hard worker, and his co-workers all loved him and appreciated him. They actually gave him two retirement parties, one the first time, and another at the second retirement. Dad was an AVID gardener, and raised the most beautiful, heavily producing gardens no matter where he lived. In 1995, John and Barbara and daughter Brenda moved to Clearwater Idaho, where they stayed, and had many friends in the Clearwater area. Both Barbara and Brenda are buried in the Clearwater Cemetery. John was a very devoted husband, and wonderful father - and a quiet soft-spoken man with a wonderful commitment to his family and friends as well as his God. We are very thankful as his children to have been able to have him in our lives. He was also paramount in the lives of his grandchildren who also live in the Clearwater area, as well as those grandchildren in other states. He loved to play chess with his grandson, and taught him all he knew about chess. Dad will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, and all those that knew him. John was able to spend the last 6 months of his life in the home of his youngest daughter and her husband, where he received wonderful care and a lot of love, surrounded by his family members, who came to visit him. We know that God will reward him well for a life well lived. Good bye Dad, we love you! | Kolb, John Edward (I5255)

| 975 | Paul Kalica Obituary Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2024. Paul passed away peacefully at the home of long time, dear friends Eddie Jentz and Julie Fitzgerald where he was receiving Hospice Care. He was born in Washington, D.C. to Anthony and Sandra Kalica. He grew up and was educated in Montgomery County, Maryland. He earned a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Management Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York as a U.S. Navy ROTC scholar. Commissioned as a naval officer in May of 1989, he began fulfilling his obligation to the Navy at Coronado, CA as a Special Warfare Officer with the U.S. Navy SEALs. He was a member of SEAL Team 5. After discharge from the Navy, he began a long career as an industrial engineer with Gamma Metrics in San Diego, CA. He held several positions in the company over the years including Director of Global Services during which he traveled extensively worldwide. Upon leaving Thermo Fisher (formerly Gamma Metrics), Paul began a new career as a small business owner of ComForCare, in the East San Diego County, which provided "in-home" health care services. This was quite a challenge since he began this endeavor just prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic. At this time Paul was motivated to help and serve those in need. Paul was not a big guy, but he had a strong desire to achieve and excel in everything he did. He was devoted to his family. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father. He married Deeann Mares, also a Navy veteran, whom he met on a ship while deployed with his SEAL team. Their son, Logan, of whom Paul was very proud, grew up in San Diego and is now working in Denver, CO as an EMS first responder. Paul enjoyed many physical activities including swimming, weight training, SCUBA diving and tae kwon do. He loved the ocean, sailing and fishing in local waters with his friends and family. He also enjoyed playing billiards, attending and watching sports events such as Padres baseball, NFL and college football, especially Navy games. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions and holidays and loved to plan and prepare meals for the occasions. He was always up to trying new recipes and foods. He was an amazing problem-solver and had a quick wit ---- right up to the end. He will be missed. He is survived by son Logan Kalica, Denver, CO, parents Anthony and Sandra Kalica, San Diego, brother Joseph Kalica, San Diego, Aunt Sally Reich, Rochester, MN, Aunt Mary Kalica and family friend Marilyn Davis, Loudonville, NY, Uncle Michael Kalica, Niverville, NY and a large extended family in other parts of the country. Also, a special thank you to the Hospice nurses and staff who cared for him in his final days, and the two veterans who gave their time to come to him and do the very impressive "Pinning Ceremony". Your kindness and understanding was greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held on November 13th at 10 AM in the chapel of the Erickson-Anderson Mortuary located at 8390 Allison Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942. | 976 | Pearl took in students (room and board) from the local college, and Willie was the janitor. Willie was a violinist and Pearl played the piano. She actually played for Peggy Lee when she was young and sung in Valley City, N.D. before she became professional. Pearl also took care of both her parents in their home until they passed away. Frankie had several strokes you can tell from pictures even in 1954 that she was sitting. George was healthy and lived past 90 and Pearl enjoyed doing the caregiving from what I have heard. They lived right on the banks of the river in Valley City and "Pop" fished and they had picnics in their back yard until the river started flooding. They built a dike in later years to stop the water from reaching the house. | Gleason, Inez Pearl (I531)
