WordPress Custom Field List Widget
I would just like to thank Tim Berger for the work he has done on the WordPress plugin to enable sorting and quick retrieval of posts using custom fields. WordPress has the capability for creating custom fields and entering the appropriate data into those fields for each post. The difficulty is in finding a way to easily utilize that information to find and retrieve various posts. Tim’s plugin allows the use of widgets to easily accomplish this task. Without this additional capability, it is difficult to recommend the use of WordPress as a full content management system. With this plugin, WordPress can easily be used for that purpose.
Way to go Tim!
Hey Larry,
Just a quick comment and question. Great site by the way (I love reading). The plug-in that is in your sidebar (Books by Title/Author) I would like to use for a project my son is doing for school (ISU). I am pretty good with WordPress but am having problems with the info on the plug-in site.
Can you tell me 1) Are the drop downs posts, categories or pages? I would like to have one for the different colleges in the United States.
Hope it made sense to you.
Thank you,
Abi Carmen
Hi Abi,
I am using the custom field list plugin with posts. I am not sure whether it works with comments or pages but I don’t think so.
Prior to finding the plugin I knew that WordPress had the capability of using custom fields, but there didn’t seem to be a way to use the information easily without a lot of programming. This plugin gave me a very easy way to get at the information I enter in those fields.
By the way, I worked with Tim Berger, the young man who programmed the plugin, to do some testing of some of his updates. He is an extremly nice individual and it was a very good experience.
Good luck with it and let me know if you would like any help in implementation.
Larry
Thank you for the quick response. Is this the right plug-in?

I believe this is it but I was quite surprised that there wasn’t more identification of the author and documentation at that site. It appears to be the same one I used, however. You can check out more information at Tim Berger’s site at http://undeuxoutrois.de/custom_field_list_widget.shtml. It is the same version number and seems to be the same files, etc.
