    Dear Friends,

All the facts know to me which affect the question of the name of the wife of Beriah Brown indicate your supposition to be correct. he is supposed to have been born about 1640, was admitted a freeman 1698, and was buried about Oct. 20, 1717, in a great snow storm. I think the family do not know the first or maiden name of his wife or wives. What reason have you for thinking he had more than one? His property was divided June 17, 1717. Besides his son Alexander and Charles there were two daughters, one (named Mary .....) who married Joseph Carpenter, and another who was the wife of John Barber.

The Charles Brown, with wife "Ellinor" who died May or June 1781, leaving children: John, Charles, Samuel, Alexander, Abigail, and a daughter name unknown, was quite certainly son of Beriah. His brother Alexander died in 1758. You will notice among the children of Charles are Alexander and an Abigail which names point in the direction of your theory. Somewhere on the N.K. records are references to a Phenix Brown whom I have always believed to be a descendant of Charles and probably his grandson.

I know much less about the descendants of this Charles than those of this brother Alexander; this latter I want to get in full if possible.

    Yours truly.
