{"id":907,"date":"2011-01-06T00:10:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-06T05:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=907"},"modified":"2015-05-31T20:22:02","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T02:22:02","slug":"the-flight-of-the-falcon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=907","title":{"rendered":"The Flight of the Falcon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Daphne Du Maurier, 1965,\u00c2\u00a0 audio book read by James Callis, 2010, by BBC Audiobooks Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>This is still a very good book, although it is now a bit dated.\u00c2\u00a0 In another one hundred years or so I guess it will be considered a period novel.<\/p>\n<p>The story is about a tour guide in Italy\u00c2\u00a0(or courier as the book terms it) who encounters an incident when guiding one of his tours.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The incident leads him to abandon his tour and pursue a mystery in his native city of Rafano.<\/p>\n<p>The book was especially interesting to me as I once toured Italy on a guided tour bus so I could relate to the main character as well as the setting.\u00c2\u00a0 The plot is, at times, somewhat of a stretch as the coincidences that arise are a bit beyond belief.\u00c2\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t read a great deal of Du Maurier&#8217;s work, but I suspect that she often sets reality aside in favor of a good story.\u00c2\u00a0 She is a great story teller and, even if I sometimes had to suspend reality, it was very enjoyable.\u00c2\u00a0 The reader of this audio book did a great job, especially when using his Italian accents.\u00c2\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"four stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-4-0.gif\" alt=\"four stars\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Daphne Du Maurier, 1965,\u00c2\u00a0 audio book read by James Callis, 2010, by BBC Audiobooks Ltd.
