Knopf, New York<\/p>\n<p>Very interesting book about a German family in WWII.\u00c2\u00a0 The narrator of the book is Death and he has a sense of humor and a personality.\u00c2\u00a0 This approach reminds me a bit of C.S. Lewis&#8217; book, <em>The Screwtape Letters, <\/em>\u00c2\u00a0where the devil was the narrator.<\/p>\n<p>The characters in the book were also interesting but perhaps not as fully developed as they might have been.\u00c2\u00a0 Also, I wish the book had tied in a bit more with the progression of the war.\u00c2\u00a0 Stalingrad and the effects it had on the neighbors who lived next door was incorporated, but the realization that the Germans were losing the war didn&#8217;t seem to enter the novel.<\/p>\n<p>Despite some shortcomings, this is a worthwhile book to read.\u00c2\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"four stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-4-0.gif\" alt=\"four stars\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Markus Zusak, 2005, Alfred A.
