The author captures the experiences precisely. I think the only drawback of the book is that you almost had to have been there and done that yourself to fully appreciate it. Fortunately for me, I did almost exactly thao, although I graduated three years later and opted to go into naval aviation while Bob DeLuca became a Marine officer. So the book was, for me, an in-depth reminiscence of those bygone days.

Then there was the Viet Nam War which hung over all of us. Bob served in Viet Nam while I did not and he lost two very close friends there. The book is also a tribute to those two fine men who sacrificed their lives out of duty to their country. Unfortunately, the war didn’t turn out well at all, and it is a shame that we lost them and over 58,000 others in that debacle.

This book is very well written. It’s well organized and the descriptions are well done. As I mentioned above, however, I would probably recommend it only to my fellow Brown midshipmen so that they, too, can recall those times and their own similar experiences.

by Robert John DeLuca, 2017, Creatspace Independent Publishing Platform, North Charleston, South Carolina This book is a great view of what it was like being a Navy ROTC student at Brown University in the turbulent mid-1960’s when the culture of … Continue reading →

[5
18,16
post-3360","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-books","tag-memoir","tag-non-fiction
["GET
