{"id":2545,"date":"2020-02-28T15:52:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T21:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2545"},"modified":"2020-03-05T13:00:13","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T19:00:13","slug":"notre-dame-a-short-history-of-the-meaning-of-cathedrals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2545","title":{"rendered":"Notre-Dame, A Short History of the Meaning of Cathedrals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Ken Follett, 2019, Viking<\/p>\n<p>This book is, indeed, short &#8211; only 62 pages.&nbsp; At the end of the book there is a note indicating that the book was written in seven days in April of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Follett wrote the book shortly after the fire in Notre-Dame.&nbsp; It consists of his thoughts and emotions after witnessing the tragedy of the fire.&nbsp; In addition to his musings on the fire, there are some thoughts regarding his publishing of his novel,&nbsp;<em>Pillars of the Earth<\/em>,&nbsp; some information regarding the building of the cathedral, as well as a chapter about Victor Hugo and his writing of&nbsp;<em>The Hunchback of Notre-Dame<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It is an interesting book given Follett&#8217;s writings about cathedral building, but it isn&#8217;t close to any history of the meaning of cathedrals.&nbsp; It&#8217;s more just an author&#8217;s musings, which is fine, but I&#8217;m a bit disappointed in the claim its subtitle purports it to be. <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"3.5 stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-3-5.gif\" alt=\"3.5 stars\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Ken Follett, 2019, Viking This book is, indeed, short &#8211; only 62 pages.&nbsp; At the end of the book there is a note indicating that the book was written in seven days in April of 2019.
