{"id":252,"date":"2009-01-01T18:50:14","date_gmt":"2009-01-02T01:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=252"},"modified":"2015-06-05T22:33:42","modified_gmt":"2015-06-06T04:33:42","slug":"ten-thousand-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=252","title":{"rendered":"Ten Thousand Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Randy Wayne White, Read by Ron McLarty, 2000 by Randy Wayne White, 2005 by Recorded Books, LLC.<\/p>\n<p>This is another mystery\/thriller set in South Florida.\u00c2\u00a0 There is a lot of information regarding the early history of the area, including the lore of the Calusa Indians.\u00c2\u00a0 In the epilogue the author cites some actual events that occurred in the more recent past on which he based the theme of the book.<\/p>\n<p>White is a pretty good storyteller and couples his story with quite of bit of historical and scientific detail.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of the time the detail adds to the story, but in a few cases, it seems to detract from the action.\u00c2\u00a0 There are a few situations where the events seem to defy imagination as in the case where the hero (Dr. Ford) has a violent confrontation with a law officer and manages to retain his glasses throughout the fight.\u00c2\u00a0 Other than a few lapses such as this, the story manages to hold together pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>Ron McLarty, the reader, does a fine job of reading White&#8217;s novels.\u00c2\u00a0 He manages to capture the voices of virtually all the characters, male and female.<em><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"three stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-3-0.gif\" alt=\"three stars\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Randy Wayne White, Read by Ron McLarty, 2000 by Randy Wayne White, 2005 by Recorded Books, LLC.
