{"id":2068,"date":"2017-03-28T21:31:52","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T03:31:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2068"},"modified":"2017-03-28T21:31:52","modified_gmt":"2017-03-29T03:31:52","slug":"under-the-wide-and-starry-sky-a-novel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2068","title":{"rendered":"Under the Wide and Starry Sky: A Novel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"productTitle\" class=\"a-size-large\">by Nancy Horan, audiobook CD,\u00c2\u00a0read by Kristin Potter, 2014, Random House Audio<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This book is a novel based on the life of Robert Lewis Stevenson and his American wife, Fanny.<\/p>\n<p>The primary attraction of the book is it&#8217;s subject matter as Stevenson and his wife were very interesting characters.\u00c2\u00a0 The author does a pretty good job of capturing the essence of each of them and the reader can take away a lot of information about Stevenson and how he became the writer that he was.<\/p>\n<p>The book, however, seemed to be way too long and the back and forth between Stevenson and Fanny became somewhat boring.\u00c2\u00a0 The author&#8217;s attempt to portray these individuals in the form of a novel didn&#8217;t seem entirely appropriate.\u00c2\u00a0 I have read many biographies that seemed to convey their subjects&#8217; character and personality as well without having to create the fictitious dialogue that this format requires.<\/p>\n<p>The writing in this novel is fairly good, although the story line seemed drawn out at times.\u00c2\u00a0 I can&#8217;t say that I enjoyed it as much as I might have had the story been a bit more brief.<span id=\"productTitle\" class=\"a-size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"3 stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-3-0.gif\" alt=\"3 stars\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Nancy Horan, audiobook CD,\u00c2\u00a0read by Kristin Potter, 2014, Random House Audio This book is a novel based on the life of Robert Lewis Stevenson and his American wife, Fanny.
