{"id":2035,"date":"2016-09-20T20:18:36","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T02:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2035"},"modified":"2016-11-05T20:30:11","modified_gmt":"2016-11-06T02:30:11","slug":"orphan-train-a-novel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=2035","title":{"rendered":"Orphan Train: A Novel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Cristina Baker Kline, audiobook read by Jessica Almasy and Suzanne Toren, 2013, Audible, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>This is a book about a young, alienated girl in Maine who begins to establish a relationship with an elderly lady.\u00c2\u00a0 She, at first, does not recognize that she has much in common with the lady, but begins to discover that they both were abandoned by their families at an early age.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, orphaned children were routinely sent on trains to the Midwest to find homes.\u00c2\u00a0 There they encountered many hardships which are vividly described in this book.\u00c2\u00a0 Despite the suffering, however, many of these young children went on to live successful and fulfilling lives<\/p>\n<p>The book was enjoyable to listen to but, as I have experienced with other books, the ending seemed very rushed.\u00c2\u00a0 There was probably at least another chapter or two that needed to be written.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s disappointing to go through an entire books and leave with a feeling that the work was unfinished.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"3 1\/2 stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-3-5.gif\" alt=\"3 1\/2 stars\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Cristina Baker Kline, audiobook read by Jessica Almasy and Suzanne Toren, 2013, Audible, Inc.
