{"id":1612,"date":"2014-06-23T19:20:59","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T01:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=1612"},"modified":"2015-04-27T20:57:35","modified_gmt":"2015-04-28T02:57:35","slug":"the-shadow-of-the-wind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=1612","title":{"rendered":"The Shadow of the Wind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Carlos Ruiz <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Zaf\u00c3\u00b3n<\/span>, Translated by Lucia Graves, 2004, The Penguin Press, New York<\/p>\n<p>This is a well-crafted mystery about a boy who comes across a mysterious book in a &#8220;book cemetery.'&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 The plot thickens from that point on as the boy progresses into manhood and the circumstances surrounding the writing of the book and the subsequent events that occur as the result of its writing take control of his life.\u00c2\u00a0 The book is set in Barcelona, Spain, around the time of Spanish Civil War.<\/p>\n<p>The plot is well constructed and the characters are interesting and believable.\u00c2\u00a0 The only thing I feel that keeps this book from becoming a masterpiece is that it tends to get bogged down a bit in its later parts.\u00c2\u00a0 I felt that I was experiencing some of the scenes multiple times and there were times that the story didn&#8217;t seem to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>I also thought the author&#8217;s writing style was very good.
