{"id":1217,"date":"2012-08-15T06:07:42","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T12:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=1217"},"modified":"2012-08-20T11:28:23","modified_gmt":"2012-08-20T17:28:23","slug":"the-submission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilsonld.com\/weblog\/?p=1217","title":{"rendered":"The Submission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Amy Waldman, 2011, Farrer, Straus, and Giroux, New York<\/p>\n<p>This is a novel about the selection of a design for a memorial garden in New York for 9-11.<\/p>\n<p>The selection process is anonymous and the novel creates an interesting scenario when the selection jury discovers, after they have made the selection, that the anonymous submitter is a Muslim.<\/p>\n<p>The book is very well written and caused me to think, &#8220;Could this really happen?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 With a little bit of the stretch of the imagination, maybe it could.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, the book never really grabbed me.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe it was that all the characters seemed to be a bit of a turnoff to me; maybe it was that the plot hinged on the 911 disaster which is still a quite sensitive subject for me.\u00c2\u00a0 At any rate, I wish I could have enjoyed it a bit more.<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"3 1\/2 stars\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonld.com\/weblog\/wp-includes\/images\/stars-3-5.gif\" alt=\"3 1\/2 stars\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Amy Waldman, 2011, Farrer, Straus, and Giroux, New York This is a novel about the selection of a design for a memorial garden in New York for 9-11.
